HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN POOL FLOAT
...
If you want to build a float yourself you'll need
large pieces of styrofoam as a floatable base,
some large pieces of green floist foam
secured in paper or plastic water containers.
( the same kind that florists use for making
arrangements in baskets) 2-4 small tiki
torches or ones that have been cut to about
2'-3' in length, fishing line (monofilament wire)
for anchoring and lots of tall flowers and
greenery. Artificial foliage can also be used.
The base is assembled with a hot glue gun
at least a day or two before the party so the
glue will completely set. Secure the florist
foam into the water container and the water
container onto the base with hot glue. Insert
the torches into the foam base and secure
with lots of hot glue.
MAKE SURE THE FLOAT IS BALANCED so it
won't capsize in the water!
Large Ti or banana leaves are pinned all
around the base THE DAY OF THE LUAU to
hide the styrofoam.
Add water to the containers so that the foam
will become soft and saturated. It's easiest
to insert the flowers while the base is
floating in the pool, of course that means
who ever is making the arrangment will have
to stand in the pool, After the flowers have
been added anchor the float to the center of
the pool by stretching the monofilament wire
from each corner of the float to planters or
anything else heavy at the edge of the pool.
Use lots of greenery (palm fronds, ferns, etc.)
for filler.

This float was made entirely of artificials so Doug
was able to assemble it in advance and transport
the whole thing over in one piece.
